I love the Percheron. My great Grandfather had a team in Kirksville, MO after the turn of the last century. When the coal trucks would get stuck in the mud they would go get Constable Heaberlin to bring out Babe and Lou to pull them out.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a lad in the 50s I rode at a stable in the Los Angeles river bed. My favorite horse was a Percheron/Morgan named Domino. He was the smartest, most gentle horse I ever put a leg over.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! Kirksville, MO still has a name as a draft horse area, there are several "horse pullers" from that part of the country. Babe and Lou sound like a team of mares? I owned a team named Lu and Sal... Lu went lame and her daughter Babe took over her place. Sal was one of the best horses I ever owned! I must say... a Percheron/Morgan cross is maybe the best mix on earth!!!
